This is the first year that we added shallots to
our cooking for the holidays!
We used them as a garnish on our carrot soup!

They have a wonderful flavor!

Well, everyone has their must-have dish, though I certainly don't do all the cooking. We'll have potatoes & rutabaga mash, Brussels sprouts, massaged kale salad, onion gratin, maple roasted squash, fruit salad, roasted cranberry sauce, a platter of raw veggies and dip for appetizer, homemade pumpkin pies . . . turkey & dressing. I'm making a big batch of roasted cranberry sauce and will send guests home with a jarful. Plenty to share, take home and still make soup the next day. I ask myself, who needs the turkey?
We're doing mostly local/seasonal food as much as possible, especially Thanksgiving. Enjoy yours.

Thanks for the advice! Very exciting to be hosting Thanksgiving this year at our home and these sound like a great addition to the line up.
And a virtual potluck sounds like fun~what are you ladies having for side dishes this year? ;)
Happy Thanksgiving!

Sarah, your idea about adding shallots to the mix is right on, as Mangochild confirms. They'll probably take longer to cook so you could do them separately, or give them a head start.
Great to hear from you both. We should have a virtual potluck of our own! Happy Thanksgiving.

I've added shallots to almost all the veg preparations I do with success, and caramelized ones are hard to beat. Last week I did some caramelized shallots with potatoes and turnips, yum. Having them on top of pasta - that's a great idea you have!

I've never really used shallots. They look yummy~I'm a big fan of onions and garlic. Am currently looking at a few Thanksgiving side dishes and was planning to do roasted root vegetables with a balsamic glaze. Do you think these shallots would be a good addition to roasted root veggies (turnip, carrot, etc)?
