The holidays are a perfect time to give a gentle nudge to friends and family with a “green starter kit”. This year I’m filling our MixedGreens shopping bags with various green and local items. There are lots of ideas for gifts to include at the Farmers Market — a jar of local honey, beeswax candles, pickles, jams, homemade soap, smoked salmon, a bottle of local wine. I also found some possibilities at my local hardware store — compact fluorescent light bulbs, environmentally safe cleaning products and stainless water bottles. Once you start looking for things to include, you’ll be surprised at how easy and fun it is to complete your gift list.
I’m also excited to tell you about a couple of new gift items from MixedGreens Market. We have ventured into the world of screenprinting with the help of Krista & Chris and their fabulous basement studio, home of myecowear.com. Yes, Sally and I hand-screened each and every organic cotton bag on 2 sides with water-based enviroline inks in lovely shades of green. Our made-in-the-U.S. totes come in 2 sizes — the large bag, perfect for grocery shopping, is 16″x16.5″ and the smaller, 11.5″ x 13.75″, is great for the times when you are just picking up a few items. They are gusseted on the bottom and have sturdy, reinforced handles.
The other new MixedGreens project is our “Season’s Eatings” notecards. These are printed on our inkjet photo printers on 100% post consumer recycled photo paper. We have put together groups of four cards, one for each season. Also included are envelopes, made from the same recycled paper. Each grouping is unique but if you want specific photos, we are happy to mix-and-match sets. These card sets make excellent gifts but you can also get some to save for your own thank-you notes.
All of our products — seasonal calendars with recipes, hand-screenprinted organic shopping bags and photo notecards are available at our etsy shop, www.mixedgreensmarket.etsy.com. For those who haven’t visited our on-line shop, please take a look. In addition to our handmade items, we have fun, inexpensive vintage housewares. Our calendars are available at Click and Capers in West Seattle, two of our favorite local gift shops. We’ve heard that some of you have had difficulties finding our etsy shop. If that’s the case, or if you just don’t want to deal with paypal, feel free to send an email and order directly from us — firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com.
