Mixed Greens BlogLiving Sustainably in the Pacific Northwest
I saw this video on YouTube and was very inspired by how resourceful this family is on an urban lot. Check it out.
SO COOL! Thank you for sharing this video. I want to send it to everyone I know!
I just have to add – I watched this on YouTube, and the second comment by a viewer is this: “I can’t comprehend the point. Good for them if they enjoy living this way but what is the point?” Amazingly clueless, huh?
This means we have such a long way to go in educating the public. So KEEP DOING THIS BLOG! It’s the work of people like you that will help change the world for our kids and grandkids.
Yes, we’d like to show something other than grocery store aisles as a food source. Edible gardens, even small ones, are a way to begin.
What an inspiration! I have never added up the tonnage of output from our garden in Seattle, its probably in the 100’s instead of 1000’s of pounds, though we are at well under 50% of space dedicated to edible plants. We could not compete with a Pasadena yard for electric or vegetable output, but there is much more we could do. Would I use an outdoor shower for four to six months/year? Maybe. And it would certainly be during Seattle’s drought months. Lots to ponder…
